Navigating Life – Counselling, Psychotherapy and Education
Delise Oldfield is an experienced mental health practitioner with an accredited tertiary qualifications, a Graduate Diploma of Counselling – specialising in trauma and grief. With over a decade of experience in mental health, Delise completed her student placement as a Counsellor Advocate at the South Western Centre for Sexual Assault (SWCASA). On graduation Delise was employed at South West Healthcare (SWH) as a Grief Counsellor/Bereavement Educator with Community Palliative Care. Assisting palliative patients and their families navigate the complexities of life limiting illness, death, grief and loss. Delise also provided training and professional support to SWH staff and volunteers.
Most recently, Delise has been working at Brophy Family and Youth Services (Brophy) as a Sexual Assault Prevention Practitioner and a Social & Emotional Wellbeing Educator. In addition she has been providing one on one specialised programs for young people with complex trauma histories and major life challenges. While at Brophy Delise has developed and delivered primary prevention programs for young people aimed at promoting healthy relationships and improved social and emotional wellbeing. These programs have been shortlisted for national primary prevention awards and a VicHealth award for improving the wellbeing of young people.
In addition to providing counselling and education in the public and community sectors, Delise has been nurturing her private practice Navigating Life where she provides individual, couple and family trauma informed support to people across their life span who are experiencing challenging life events. Supporting people with complex trauma, PTSD, history of sexual assault, complex grief, chronic pain and illness, end of life preparation, depression and anxiety. Delise also develops and delivers community health programs and provides professional development for health professionals and service providers.
Navigating Life evolved from Delise’s training as a Birth Attendant/Doula and Childbirth Educator in 2013. While providing prenatal and perinatal education and psychological support Delise observed a growing number of mothers presenting with histories of complex trauma, sexual assault, antenatal anxiety, birth trauma, and perinatal loss or postnatal depression. Delise immersed herself in specialised training including birth debriefing, positive infant attachment, and perinatal and infant death.
Delise supports parents to explore their cultural beliefs, fears, strengths, capabilities, and family experiences of birth, parenting and loss.
Delise is available to discuss her areas of specialisation in working with people across their lifespan to navigate life’s challenges and transitions.
